"Intersections of Connection”

Artist Statement

Think back to your favorite road trip. What comes to mind? The hum of the tires across the pavement, the scent of crisp pine, blue skies? As an expressionist, media painter, I like to explore how memories are triggered by color, texture, and nostalgia. Through color play, bits of maps, and added texture, Intersections of Connections is an exploration of connecting home, travel, and transportation.

What better way is there to connect than through exploration? An integral part of travel is a means of transportation and a road map. In the modern day of digital maps, the nostalgia of a brightly colored paper with crossing roads, city centers, and bypasses, visually leads the way to adventure and new places. My painting, Intersections of Connection portrays how the pulse of the Charlotte city center connects to the suburbs, outerbands, and neighboring cities through a network of roads and passageways. I use the circular bands to show how communities build from the city center, then the connections radiate out uniting with other cities and into South Carolina. Green sparks visions of farmland and rolling hills of the countryside and blue brings to mind the coastal waters. Both are just a few hours’ journey away from the city. My intention is for this abstract art to invoke both future ventures and timeless memories through color, texture, and names of places. Intersections of Connection is where memory and dreams meet to begin your next expedition.
