BIOGRAPHY
Nico Amortegui is a Charlotte-based artist whose art brut style is familiar; yet distinctly his own composite of cultural experiences. A native of Bogotá, Colombia, Nico learned countless skills and trades by doing and has a tremendous appreciation for generational artisan craft. Known for large-scale paintings and murals, his artworks can be found in numerous cities including Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Durham, DC, and Tel Aviv. Nico enjoys painting, sculpting with metal, and woodworking where he is proficient in chainsaw carving.

"Seeking ”
Artist Statement
This piece explores the cyclical challenges of homelessness from seeking basic needs to the literal seeking to be seen. Kindness – the simplest of acts – can elicit awareness in the form of acknowledgement as well as restore dignity for those navigating uncertainty daily. It asks viewers to consider what is being sought and what about our systems allows the search to continue.
